The Workplace Relations Commission awarded a general operative a redundancy lump sum after finding that the car sales business where he worked had ceased trading on 30 June 2017. The entitlement was based on employment from 1 October 2012 to 30 June 2017 and gross weekly pay of €341.13, subject to insurable employment. The decision was dated 30 April 2018. The worker said the respondent had given him four weeks’ notice of the closure but told him it could not afford redundancy pay. The respondent did not attend the hearing or file a defence.
