The Workplace Relations Commission found that a tenant was discriminated against because he was a HAP applicant and decided the respondent should pay him €5,000. The decision was dated 1 February 2018.
The tenant said he was told the apartment had gone to a cash applicant after he disclosed that he had HAP approval. The respondent said another applicant paid cash, due diligence was needed and the online listing was for a different apartment.
The WRC found that the respondent drove away from a later viewing and did not return. It concluded that the respondent had been influenced by the HAP application and declined the tenant’s application because he was HAP-approved.
