WRC finds chef entitled to statutory redundancy lump sum after restaurant closure

By Rory Hanlon

Workplace Relations Commission ·

A WRC adjudicator found a chef entitled to a statutory redundancy lump sum after the restaurant where he worked closed. The entitlement is subject to PRSI requirements and is based on his service from 3 August 2014 to 15 May 2017 and gross weekly pay of €450. Adjudication officer Enda Murphy dated the decision 15 November 2017. The chef said he arrived for work on 15 May 2017 to find the premises closed and the locks changed, without prior warning. The restaurant did not attend the hearing. On the chef’s uncontested evidence, the adjudicator found that his employment ended by reason of redundancy following the business closure.
