The Workplace Relations Commission found that a goods transport company breached a driver’s statutory rest-period rights and ordered it to pay him €200 compensation. It also required the company to recognise his right to 11 hours’ rest in every 24-hour period. The decision was dated 14 November 2017.
The driver said he was required to make two 14-hour round trips to Kerry, leaving him only 10 hours’ rest. The company relied on a reduced-rest arrangement but acknowledged that he had not agreed to it. It said it would respect his entitlement going forward.
