The WRC awarded an accounts and payroll specialist €18,400 after finding she was unfairly dismissed by an entertainment production company. The decision was dated 2 February 2018.
She had worked for the company since 2012. Her employment ended on 1 March 2017 after a co-employee made an allegation that remained unsubstantiated. She said she was dismissed by email without an investigation or disciplinary procedure and had no opportunity to respond.
The company conceded liability and asked the WRC to assess compensation by reference to her losses. The adjudicator considered that she had been out of work for seven weeks before taking a short-term job at lower pay; that contract was due to end in December 2017. The adjudicator was satisfied she had done everything reasonably expected to find alternative work and employment closer to her former salary.
The worker did not seek reinstatement or re-engagement. The WRC found she was unfairly dismissed and awarded €18,400 compensation.
