WRC rejects legal secretary’s constructive-dismissal complaint; two claims withdrawn

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The WRC rejected a legal secretary’s constructive-dismissal complaint against a firm of solicitors, finding that she resigned voluntarily. In a decision dated 18 December 2017, the adjudicator found her contract required hours of 9am to 5.30pm and that the firm was not unreasonable in asking her to work them. The adjudicator also found that the secretary resigned before the firm had time to address her written grievance. Her complaints under the Employment Equality Act and Parental Leave Act were withdrawn at the hearing.
