The WRC rejected a receptionist’s unfair dismissal and redundancy complaints after finding her position had been made genuinely redundant. The decision, dated 29 March 2018, found that the ex-gratia payment she sought was outside the scope of the unfair dismissal claim. The charity said weekend reception work had been outsourced after a review and that it offered her another, part-time role. The receptionist argued that the alternative would mean a substantial loss of income and that the ex-gratia payment was inadequate. The WRC found the charity had paid her statutory redundancy entitlement. Her claims for unfair dismissal and a larger redundancy payment both failed.
