WRC rejects security operative’s complaint over expired oral warning

By Saoirse Doyle

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The Workplace Relations Commission did not uphold a security operative’s complaint about an oral warning in a recommendation dated 16 November 2017. The warning had expired and been removed from his file before the hearing. The operative, a police officer outside the Garda Síochána, said he had not been told about a changed policy on returning to duty after court appearances. The adjudicator found confusion over how effectively the change had been communicated, but said the warning was the mildest sanction available and had expired. The operative also sought damages, which the WRC could not award.
