Service station recommended to pay sales assistant €1,500 after unfair dismissal

Workplace Relations Commission ·

A WRC adjudication officer recommended that a service station pay a sales assistant €1,500 after finding her dismissal procedurally unfair. The recommendation was dated 14 December 2017. The worker said she was dismissed without warning after oversleeping once, despite positive feedback during her first two weeks. The officer found she had not been told her job was at risk or given a fair opportunity to address performance concerns before her dismissal. The officer recommended the compensation in full and final settlement of the dispute. The respondent did not attend the hearing.
