The Workplace Relations Commission dismissed a cinema-goer’s family-status discrimination complaint after she and her family were asked to move from premium seats they had entered with standard tickets. The decision was dated 15 March 2018.
The complainant said cinema staff had told the family they could sit anywhere, then asked them to move when checking their tickets. She alleged they had not been accommodated with their child’s buggy. The cinema said the family could move a few seats to a buggy-storage area or pay the €5 premium-seat surcharge.
The WRC found the request to move was because of the ticket type, not the complainant’s family status, and dismissed the complaint.
