WRC recommends postal operative accept investigation outcome

By Donal Gilhooly

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The WRC recommended that a postal operative accept her employer’s investigation outcome after finding the employer’s account more credible in a dispute over a private letter. In a decision dated 15 November 2017, adjudication officer Eugene Hanly also recommended that both sides continue efforts to restore workplace relations. The worker said her manager opened a letter about a vacant duty competition and pressured her to accept the post before she had resolved concerns about the duties. She sought an apology. The postal company said the manager first handed her the letter unopened and opened it later after she returned it. The WRC accepted the company’s account on the balance of probabilities.
