WRC rejects consultant psychiatrist’s claim for permanent contract

By Niamh Kearney

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The WRC rejected a consultant psychiatrist’s claim for a contract of indefinite duration, accepting that open competition for fixed-term posts was objectively justified. The decision, dated 11 December 2017, concerned her work for a health public-sector body from 2008 to 2016 under successive fixed-term contracts. The officer said the recruitment process helped bring new professionals, developments and standards into the service. The WRC said it had no jurisdiction to hear a separate discrimination complaint that was not included in the complaint form.
