WRC grants chef redundancy lump sum after café-restaurant closure

The WRC granted a chef a redundancy lump sum based on more than four years' service at a café-restaurant that closed in June 2016. Adjudication Officer Kevin Baneham dated the decision 7 June 2017. The chef said the restaurant closed after staff were given five days' notice and the respondent refused to complete redundancy paperwork. The company did not attend. The officer accepted uncontroverted evidence that the chef's employment ended by redundancy, with continuous insurable service from 4 April 2012 to 26 June 2016. The entitlement was based on weekly gross pay of €430.
