WRC rejects security officer’s redundancy claim

By Niamh Kearney

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The WRC rejected a security officer’s redundancy claim against a security provider, finding no genuine redundancy. The decision was dated 18 July 2017. The officer said he had worked full time for the provider since 2006 and expected 35 hours a week. After his rostered hours were withdrawn in November 2016, he believed his job had ended. The provider said it had written and called to discuss his availability, but he did not respond. The adjudicator found the officer had not used the employer’s roster complaint process and had not answered its calls. Although the employer had overlooked him for a time after his roster was withdrawn, the WRC found no genuine redundancy and refused his application.
