WRC finds assistant principal’s job redundant and sets out payment entitlement

By Tadhg O'Sullivan

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The WRC found that an assistant principal’s job at a private primary school was redundant and decided she was entitled to 25.5 weeks’ pay plus six weeks’ pay in lieu of notice, at a gross weekly rate of €1,229.95. The decision was dated 8 November 2017. The adjudicator found the school had closed at one premises and reopened elsewhere, while a different entity operated at the original premises. The respondent did not attend the hearing. The entitlement was subject to the complainant having been in insurable employment for the relevant period.
