A restaurant must pay a chef €1,062 after the WRC found his Payment of Wages complaint well founded. The decision was dated 14 December 2017 and covered unpaid hours and an hourly-rate shortfall. The chef said he was owed for his first two weeks and had been paid €11 rather than the agreed €13 for other hours. The restaurant said it paid €630 in cash for the first two weeks and paid the extra €2 per hour in cash. The adjudication officer found the restaurant’s account lacked written corroboration and accepted the chef’s evidence. The €1,062 payment is subject to any lawful tax deductions.
