A baker’s unfair-dismissal complaint failed, but the WRC awarded him four weeks’ notice pay at €586 a week. The decision was dated 14 November 2017. The bakery said he breached food-safety standards by drinking from a pipe that fed a bucket used in food production. He accepted drinking from the pipe but disputed that the water was used in food production. The adjudicator accepted the bakery’s account and found adequate grounds for disciplinary action, with no flaw in the process. The adjudicator found the dismissal fair and dismissed the unfair-dismissal complaint. The separate minimum-notice complaint was upheld, with four weeks’ pay awarded subject to statutory deductions.
