The Workplace Relations Commission awarded a driver €250 after finding a recruitment agency made an unlawful deduction from his wages. The decision was dated 30 January 2018. The driver said he had agreed to a rate of €20 an hour for a shift, but received €143.80 for 12.45 hours, equivalent to €11.55 an hour. The agency did not attend the hearing. The WRC accepted the driver’s account, found the shortfall was €105.20 and ruled it was an unlawful deduction under the Payment of Wages Act.
