WRC rejects worker’s challenge to absence warnings but recommends clearer details

By Ruairí Dolan

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The WRC found a production operator’s dispute over verbal and written absence warnings not well founded, but recommended that her employer give clearer details in future warnings. The recommendation was dated 21 June 2017. The worker argued that it was unfair to receive warnings for absences supported by medical certificates. The employer said it had followed its procedure, counselled her about attendance and issued warnings after further absences. The adjudicator found no reason to overturn the warnings because the employer had followed its procedure. The WRC recommended that future warnings state the dates and number of absence incidents and whether each was certified or uncertified.
