The Workplace Relations Commission found a retail assistant’s dismissal was not unfair after a long-term absence. Adjudication officer John Tierney dated the decision 9 May 2018. The decision also lists an Employment Equality Act complaint but gives no outcome for it. The retail store said it held regular meetings during the worker’s absence, but could not obtain a return-to-work date. The worker challenged the procedure and said the dismissal letter may have been posted before a meeting. The WRC found he had been warned beforehand, had not stayed in regular contact and had not provided weekly sick certificates. It accepted that the store acted reasonably.
