A beauty college must pay a former sales manager €4,400.06 in unpaid commission, the WRC found in a decision dated 8 November 2017. The sales manager said she earned commission on course sales while working for the college. When she left in July 2016, she was asked to wait until September for the final calculation, but no commission was paid. The respondent did not attend the hearing; an accounts officer had told her commission was not payable after she left. The adjudication officer found the commission had been earned during her employment and remained unpaid. The Payment of Wages Act covers commission and former employees, so the complaint was well founded.
