WRC upholds general operative’s redundancy claim

By Tadhg O'Sullivan

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The WRC upheld a general operative’s redundancy claim against a meat processing plant. The decision was dated 11 May 2017. The worker said she had been employed continuously from 6 September 1999 to 24 October 2016 and received no redundancy payment after short-time working and layoff. The respondent did not attend or provide submissions, so the adjudicator relied on her uncontested account. The plant was required to pay her statutory redundancy entitlement, based on weekly wages of €400 and continuous service from 6 September 1999 to 24 October 2016.
