The Workplace Relations Commission recommended that A Local Authority supply orthotic inserts for an employee’s safety boots. The recommendation was dated 23 August 2017. The employee was required to wear safety footwear at work. The authority said it had declined his request for help with the inserts because occupational health advice had not said the authority should provide them. The adjudication officer found that the requirement to wear protective footwear placed an obligation on the authority to supply the orthotics in the circumstances described.
