WRC recommends removing worker’s verbal warning from record

By Orla Quinn

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The Workplace Relations Commission recommended that an employer remove a worker’s verbal warning from his record. The recommendation was dated 5 September 2017. The worker, a processor, said the warning followed accidental machine programming that damaged a part, and that he reported and corrected the error. The employer argued that the warning was reasonable and that its expiry meant the dispute was outside the WRC’s remit. The adjudication officer rejected the jurisdiction argument and found it procedurally improper to consider an earlier incident that had already been dealt with.
