The WRC awarded a worker a statutory redundancy lump sum, subject to his employment being insurable for redundancy purposes under the Social Welfare Acts, after finding that his employment with a service company had effectively ended when it had no work for him. The decision was dated 16 June 2017. The worker said he had tried repeatedly to return after going off work in 2014, but the employer told him it had no work. The employer did not attend the hearing. The WRC based the entitlement on service beginning in 1989 and gross weekly pay of €300. A separate complaint under the Terms of Employment (Information) Act was withdrawn at the hearing.
