The WRC found that a supermarket chain was not liable for a worker’s redundancy payment for service before it took over the shop. The decision was dated 19 June 2017. The worker’s employment at the supermarket began in January 2005. The chain said it had entered a caretaker arrangement in June 2014 and would accept liability only for service from that point. The WRC found there had been no sale of the business or agreement on commercial terms, and that the chain was not liable for the redundancy payments.
