The WRC awarded a contract cleaner €4,750 after finding she was unfairly dismissed by a cleaning company. It also awarded €500 for failing to provide written employment terms and €500 for unpaid notice and leave. Adjudication officer Penelope McGrath dated the decision 26 May 2017. The worker said she had repeatedly asked about holiday pay and that the company ended her employment without notice. The company did not appear, and her account was unchallenged. McGrath found the company had failed to provide a written statement of terms. She also found its refusal or failure to pay notice and leave was covered by the Payment of Wages Act. She held that the dismissal was without warning or preamble and wholly unreasonable, awarding compensation for the financial loss she described.
