The WRC decided that a mechanic should receive €3,816 in statutory redundancy after his auto garage closed. The payment was due within six weeks of the decision, dated 6 March 2017. The mechanic worked from 27 August 2013 to 29 April 2016 and earned €600 a week. The garage did not attend the hearing. The adjudication officer accepted the mechanic’s evidence, found a genuine redundancy and concluded he had more than two years’ continuous service. The entitlement was calculated as 5.36 weeks’ pay plus a bonus week.
