The WRC upheld a medical practice secretary’s claim for statutory redundancy and rejected her minimum-notice complaint in a decision dated 13 June 2017. Her wages and working-time complaints were withdrawn at the hearing. The secretary worked for a general practitioner from April 2002 until his retirement in April 2016. She said the incoming doctor did not retain her service and that the GP refused to sign her redundancy forms. The GP argued she had been re-engaged on the same terms and conditions. The adjudicator found her contract with the incoming doctor did not reflect a promise to respect her service, and required the GP to pay statutory redundancy based on her insurable employment. The minimum-notice complaint was rejected because the GP gave three months’ notice of his retirement.
