WRC finds pharmacist’s dismissal fair after five performance plans

By Aoife Loughran

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The Workplace Relations Commission found that a pharmacist’s dismissal was fair and rejected his unfair dismissal complaint. The decision was dated 31 August 2017. The pharmacist said he faced a two-year campaign of intimidation and unfair performance reviews, and that he lacked support. The retail pharmacy group said his performance was inconsistent and that he received support and a fair opportunity to improve. The officer found that the pharmacist knew the performance concerns, what was expected of him and the consequences of not meeting his performance plan. He received ongoing mentoring, and the employer had placed him on five performance improvement plans. He described himself as a whistleblower but gave no details meeting that definition.
