Warehouse coordinator's unfair dismissal complaint fails

By Saoirse Doyle

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The Workplace Relations Commission rejected a warehouse operations co-ordinator’s unfair dismissal complaint after finding that his role was genuinely redundant and he was not unfairly selected. Adjudication Officer Patsy Doyle dated the decision 27 March 2018. The employee said the selection process was unfair, with inadequate consultation and no clear criteria. The logistics company said falling business meant it needed one warehouse operator instead of two. The WRC criticised the process as hasty, ad hoc and poorly documented, but found the company met the reasonableness test by a narrow margin. It found no connection between the dismissal and an alleged personal dispute, and said age and work performance were not held against him.
