The WRC found that a crane driver was entitled to a redundancy lump sum after his construction company failed to provide suitable alternative work. The decision was dated 30 June 2017. The company argued that work remained available and that the driver did not qualify for redundancy. The adjudication officer found he had completed the required four-week lay-off period, given written notice of his intention to claim, and received no counter-notice. An offer of two to three weeks’ work in another province did not meet the requirements for suitable alternative work. The lump sum was based on his service and a wage ceiling of €600, subject to his having been in insurable employment during the relevant period.
