The WRC awarded a truck driver €10,395 for unfair dismissal and €2,079 for a breach of the Terms of Employment (Information) Act in a decision dated 29 August 2017.
The hardware retailer said his employment began on 15 June 2015 and that he walked out in June 2016. The driver said he started on 9 June 2015 and was dismissed without notice. The adjudication officer relied on text messages and work-related calls in finding that he had the required service and was summarily dismissed. The officer also found the retailer had not provided the required written statement of employment terms.
