The Workplace Relations Commission awarded a Recovery Technician €15,500 for unfair dismissal by a motor company in a decision dated 9 June 2017. It also awarded €1,500 for missing written employment terms, €860 for notice pay and €1,490.70 for unpaid wages and annual leave. The adjudication officer heard the case on 2 May 2017.
The technician said the company accused him of taking a customer’s missing cash deposit and dismissed him without an investigation. The company did not attend the hearing or send submissions. On the technician’s uncontested evidence, the officer found all four complaints well founded. The officer said the absence of trust meant compensation was the appropriate redress for the unfair dismissal.
