The Workplace Relations Commission recommended €10,000 for a health and safety consultant after finding merit in her dispute over her dismissal during probation. Adjudication Officer Penelope McGrath dated the decision 12 June 2017.
The consultant said her probation was extended without warning and that she was dismissed after a meeting with her line manager. The facilities service provider cited issues including missed deadlines and communication problems. The adjudicator found the extension appeared partly rooted in a personality clash and that the manager terminated her employment on grounds that did not merit dismissal. She found the consultant had not been afforded natural justice and that human resources failed in its role. The award took account of four or five months out of work and that the consultant had moved on.
