WRC grants office administrator redundancy entitlement after relocation dispute

By Niamh Kearney

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The Workplace Relations Commission found that an office administrator was entitled to a statutory redundancy lump sum after her employer moved its office. The decision, dated 6 December 2016, also found her sick-pay complaint was not well founded.

The company said the job remained available at the new office and offered flexibility and other arrangements to help her move. The adjudicator found the company had stopped operating where the employee had worked and had given insufficient regard to her reasons for not relocating. The decision cited her growing sense of isolation and the change in her job. The lump sum was based on her start date, termination date and weekly pay, subject to insurable employment.
