The WRC found it had no jurisdiction to hear a customer’s Equal Status complaint against a public house over an alleged refusal of service on the Traveller ground. The decision was dated 14 November 2016.
The customer said a barman refused to serve him and referred to his membership of the Traveller community. The WRC found that claims about prohibited conduct on licensed premises must be brought in the District Court under the Intoxicating Liquor Act, 2003. The public house did not attend the hearing. The WRC did not decide whether discrimination occurred; the merits were not decided.
