The WRC awarded an anonymous worker €6,271 for wages found properly payable, after partly upholding his wages complaint. The decision was dated 7 July 2016.
The worker, a pizza chef, said he worked up to 66 hours a week for €350 and that €130 was deducted each week for taxes and accommodation. The fast-food outlet did not attend the hearing, and the adjudicator relied on the worker’s uncontested evidence on the successful complaints.
The adjudicator also awarded €500 for excess weekly hours, €500 for Sunday work and €3,250 for unlawful deductions. Other awards were €700 for annual leave, €108 for public holidays, €500 for breaks, €500 for daily rest breaches and €700 for not receiving written terms. The minimum-notice claim was not well founded because the worker had left the job.
