The WRC ordered an employer to apply the maximum General Manager pay scale to a worker from 1 February 2014, with full retrospection. The decision was dated 13 May 2016.
An earlier internal decision authorised the worker’s temporary appointment from 1 October 2013 and the maximum pay point from February 2014. The employer said it had implemented that decision in full, but the WRC found the maximum point had been applied only from 1 October 2014. It found the appointment and initial pay point had been applied correctly, and ordered the earlier date to be applied without restrictions or qualifications.
The worker had sought permanent regrading, saying he had performed higher-grade duties and that the grievance process had been obstructive. The employer said the final internal determination had been implemented. The WRC treated the matter as an industrial relations and human resources dispute.
