The WRC awarded a worker €9,840 after finding he was unfairly dismissed during a voluntary redundancy exit he had requested. The decision, dated 2 June 2016, found that the company had a genuine redundancy situation but handled the process too quickly and gave him too little consultation and time to consider the changes. The worker said he had asked for an exit package but was pressured to sign documents and was denied a fair process. The technology company said he had requested and accepted voluntary redundancy and had not been pressured to leave. The adjudicator found that the worker contributed significantly to his detriment, including by not using the appeal process offered to him. The compensation award was made without prejudice to payments he had already received from the company.
