Labour Court rejects union appeal over £750 claim against Howmedica International (Limerick)

The Labour Court upheld a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation that a worker’s claim for a £750 lump-sum payment under a partnership agreement should fail. The decision was dated 21 September 1999. Howmedica International (Limerick) said the worker had not completed six months on the multiskilled rate before the agreement took effect. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union argued that the written agreement did not include that condition and that the worker understood he qualified because he was doing multiskilled work at the relevant rate. The Court agreed that the company had interpreted the agreement correctly and disallowed the appeal.
