The Labour Court upheld Cork Corporation’s appeal over a half-hour pay deduction from a production attendant in its waterworks department, rejecting a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation that the worker be paid for that time. The decision was dated 11 June 1999. The Corporation said the worker had not completed an assigned task to hose down settlement tanks; the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said he had done the work. The Court noted that the Rights Commissioner was not satisfied the worker had adequately performed his duties. It said the foreman could not return an employee for overtime payment for work not done.
