In 1999, the Labour Court upheld a Rights Commissioner's recommendation that Tesco Ireland Ltd offer an unnamed chargehand a weekly premium of £6.60 in settlement of a dispute over her Off-Licence responsibilities. Its decision was signed on 10 May 1999. Mandate appealed on the worker's behalf, seeking the 7½% chargehand differential. The Court said the parties urgently needed to define how a post of responsibility applied to an Off-Licence department. It upheld the recommendation in the meantime and said the appellant's claim should be examined in light of that review.
