The Labour Court amended a Rights Commissioner's proposed £300 settlement in a cleaner-rate pay dispute involving a worker at Tesco Ireland, recommending that the company offer £600 in settlement. Mandate appealed on the worker's behalf, saying she had been employed as a cleaner but paid the sales assistant rate for 26 months. Tesco Ireland said she had been hired as a sales assistant and cleaning was part of the job. The Labour Court heard the appeal on 16 March and dated its decision 23 March 1999. It said the dispute would be best satisfied by amending the Rights Commissioner's recommendation. The earlier recommendation proposed £300; the Court's amended recommendation proposed £600.
