Labour Court raises compensation to £1,000 each for three former Maysteel supervisors

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court increased compensation for three former supervisors at Maysteel Teoranta from £600 to £1,000 each after the Amalgamated Transport and General Workers’ Union appealed. The decision was signed on 20 October 1998. The Court upheld the Rights Commissioner’s findings but amended the compensation figure. The union said the supervisors had been promised first refusal if supervisory posts returned and had lost £70 a week. Maysteel said they had stepped aside without losing pay and had not applied for advertised posts. The dispute concerned the union’s claim for compensation for lost earnings after three former supervisors stepped aside during a reorganisation.
