In 1997, the Labour Court found the manner of a general operative’s dismissal by Ultrakabin Limited unfair and upheld his appeal. It recommended compensation equal to two weeks’ wages, inclusive of notice. The decision was dated 12 February 1997. The worker said he had received no warnings and was expected to carry out work proper to a qualified carpenter. Ultrakabin Limited said it dismissed him after repeated warnings about workmanship and timekeeping. The Rights Commissioner had recommended that the worker accept that his dismissal was not unfair.
