The Labour Court rejected an appeal by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and the Amalgamated Transport and General Workers’ Union, upholding a recommendation that Cadbury Ireland Limited pay half the lost earnings of five workers. The decision was dated 7 July 1997. The dispute followed a stoppage at the company’s TimeOut plant after five workers refused to clear and restart a blocked spiral cooler. Each lost five hours’ pay. The Rights Commissioner recommended that the company meet half the loss for all five workers, after it had offered to do so. The Labour Court considered that recommendation more than fair and upheld it.
