In 1997, the Labour Court rejected International Contract Cleaners Limited’s appeal and upheld a £1,500 compensation recommendation for a worker dismissed after three weeks. The decision was dated 18 July 1997, and the Court made the payment payable by either or both of International Contract Cleaners Limited and Irish Conservation and Cleaning Limited. International Contract Cleaners Limited argued that Irish Conservation and Cleaning Limited had employed and paid the worker, and that his workmanship had deteriorated. The union disputed the company’s claims and said the worker had received no warning. The Court found International Contract Cleaners Limited could not deny the employment relationship after attending the Rights Commissioner’s hearing as the employer. It also found no satisfactory evidence that the work complained of was the worker’s and noted that he had received no warning before his dismissal.
