In 1996, the Labour Court rejected the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union's appeal over Aer Lingus's re-grading of a worker. It upheld the Rights Commissioner's recommendation, adding that the episode should be removed from the worker's file after 12 months of satisfactory service. The Court signed its decision on 21 October 1996. Aer Lingus said the discipline followed personal use of company telephones and an incident involving a customer. The worker acknowledged the telephone use but disputed wrongdoing in the customer incident. The Court found the recommendation was not unreasonable.
