The Labour Court upheld a Rights Commissioner recommendation that Aer Rianta pay an unnamed casual sales assistant £500 after she was dismissed during training for a sales assistant role at Dublin Airport. The decision was signed on 18 January 1996. The Rights Commissioner found Aer Rianta had not made clear that the training week was a probationary assessment period and recommended an ex-gratia payment of £500 in full and final settlement. Mandate appealed, arguing that the worker had too little time to prove herself. Aer Rianta said she had opportunities to improve and was unsuitable for the role. The Labour Court found the recommendation was not unreasonable, upheld it and rejected the appeal.
